Here is the how on Crumpler bags toughness, durableness and amazing strengthness. But before exploring the how, let's look at the why. Simply put, when a group of hardened Melbourne bike messengers found that the bags on offer didn’t cut it they decided to do it right and make some bags that suited their needs. After years of innovation and tweaking, we have landed on some core features that make our bags indestructible.
To make a long lasting bag, you need strong stitching in key joins. We use a bar tack, a tight zigzag stitch repeated over itself to ensure maximum strength so your bag can take high amounts of stress.
Our buckles and clips have to be high quality, strong and efficient so we make them out of polyamide (nylon) or polyacetal (metal substitute). We test to make sure the durability is excellent before use on any of our products.
Made from either nylon or polypropylene webbing, our straps are some tough stuff (the 50mm straps could tow your car!). This is achieved by weaving many layers of high quality fibres of varying thickness together for all our webbing.
It's not just for decoration, piping and binding also adds extra strength and stability to the sides of our bags. A simple but core feature that helps make authentic Crumpler bags indestructible.
Did something sharp poke through your bag? The ripstop lining will stop tears from spreading. Woven with a thicker thread, punctures will not get any bigger than the 7mm grid.
Chicken Tex™ Nylon is a custom woven fabric and is the main fabric on most of our bags. This fabric has up to 1000d weave density, which is a lot (3.5cm2 is made from 9Kms of nylon!). Created to have the perfect balance between ultra-strength and weight, Chicken Tex makes Crumpler bags extra tough.
Coating is used on all Crumpler fabrics to protect your bag and contents from liquids, dirt and grime. Check out the Moses EffectTM our neoprene protection bags for yourself, which, as the name implies, stops the material from soaking up water.
